MANSEHRA: A large number of protesters here Saturday took to the streets in Darband to demand creation of Tanawal district.
The protesters, who were holding banners and placards, marched on different roads and assembled at the open ground in Darband for a public meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, local activists Wali Mohammad Khan, Zahoor Ahmad, Mohammad Liaqat, Abdul Razzaq and others said that the Tanawal area had been deprived of its due rights. “There is not a single degree college for women in the entire Tanawal,” lamented Wali Mohammad.
He said that Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti had given Torghar the status of district even though its population was less than Tanawal. They said that people of Tanawal had rendered great sacrifices for the country as thousands of families in the area were displaced due to the Tarbela Dam.
